Dear landlords i have a question for you.
I know to pick up the right tenants is difficult.
I believe is on the trust, honestly and loyalty.
How do you choose your tenants?? What is it make you to choose the right person ?? How do you now the person is not scamming you?
I know the open rent is the one of the platforms who provide accommodation for people on benefits and helps to go through applications.
But still there is lots of question markers.
We are family of four two adults and two girls (10&15)yrs old.
Because of my disability i cant work so we relying on universal credit benefits.
We live in 2 bedrom flat almost over 5 and half year and never missed the payment of rent.i do have very good reference from my state agent.
But to find a good landlord is impossible..
Even if trustfuly fill your form still you wont be accepted..
Landlords …you know what is the income for people on benefits and still is not enough for you??? What guarantees you need ??
I just dont get it whats the point get register for this site if there is discrimination from landlords towards good tenants???
I preffer eye contact with people not this.
All i want is just to live somewhere withy family, pay rent and focus on my health to get better.
Anyway i hope if someone is gonna read this and maybe his point of view will change.
Thanks
Just so you know, this has been discussed to death on these forums (just do a search). You’ll get a lot of responses from LLs here who, like me, have plenty of tenants on benefits.
You are not going to change anyone’s view with a forum post on the issue. If there are discriminatory LLs here, I’ve not seen them.
Well actually, there was one, but she’s not around much anymore…
From my experience, most of the landlords on here are go…or offer at least good advice.
The issue with the benefits system as I see it is the rents are pegged at the bottom 30% of the market. This means that for anywhere affordable, another 70% of people may be chasing that property and the chances are they may have a job, better credit no pets or something that makes the landlord think they are a better bet.
Personally, I’d put an ad on Facebook or even here on OpenRent asking Landlords directly if they have something coming up in your area.
Remember, contrary to popular belief, most landlords are actually nice people.
Sadly, as the gov continue to make it less profitable, and more difficult to be a Landlord, and especially with the forthcoming changes which will make it more difficult & costly to evict a bad tenant, Landlords are having to be more picky.
Tenants on benefits are considered by many to be a greater risk, and I understand the stats back this up.
Certainly, if I pick a bad tenant and have to ask them to leave, a working tenant has a greater likelihood of finding another property & therefore I’m less likely to have to go legal.
Likewise, if inflation goes up, rent has to go up, and a working tenant is more likely to have had a pay rise % greater than benefits increases, so is more likely to be able to afford the necessary increases.
