Using a guarantor service

Hello renters,

My partner and I are immigrants, and this is our first foray into OpentRent. He was already living in the UK when I joined him this past month, so he has a rent and banking history in the UK along with his employment. He wasn’t asked to provide a guarantor when he rented our current place.

Our experience thus far on OpenRent indicates a guarantor is either a requirement when renting through the OpenRent system or is strongly preferred by landlords.

We are fine with it, except we have no one in the UK who we are comfortable asking to be our guarantor. I have read up on guarantor services but have not seen them mentioned in this forum, and I wondered what the take is on such services.

What are the reliable agencies?
How should we do our due diligence?
What are scam-proof alternatives for renters such as ourselves?

Thanks all.

I think there are legit guarantor providers but I dont use guarantors. Perhaps look for one linked to one of the landlord associations. Other tips to avoid scams - dont look on facebook marketplace.
