Buying a property without the help of a solicitor

I am thinking of buying a property from a family member. I will pay market value and this would be a normal transaction just as with anyone else; but since there is mutual trust and I know the property well I was thinking of doing the transaction without a solicitor. Has anyone any experience in this? I have just done a quick search online and they speak about identity verification which for example might be more complicated if you DIY, but I wanted to hear about any practical experiences from anyone here who might want to share them.
Thanks!

It is not possible to buy or sell a property without a Solicitor. You need a Solicitor and your family member also need a Solicitor.
