Letting agency is claiming in inventory that there is no odour in the flat, which is complete lie. There was hindi family living in the flat before us and strong curry smell was present when we viewed the property and now, when we are moving in, is getting more noticeable.
How can the agency claim that there is no bad odour anywhere in the flat? The inventory should reflect factual state. What can tenants do to make the agency reflect this smell in moving-in inventory?
Maybe they dont class it as parr of the inventory as its not an actual object or fixture and fitting and in theor opinion you can just open windows and freshen the place up and the smell will disipstate also surely if uts lisyed on the inventory YOU would have to replicate the odour when your moving out
Curry smell is not easy to get rid of, simply airing the place will not do. It is combination and oiliness of spices that makes is so difficult to get rid of. We are trying everything we can to get rid of it, so hopefully this will not the be an issue in some time, the problem we have is that the agency is clearly stating in the inventory that there is no odour - which is a lie.
We have alreay washed the carpets, washed the courtains, cleaned the kitchen cabinets and cleaned the hob hood from greasy residue, hovewer, still some smell is detectable when entering the flat.
We have few days left to sign the inventory, with other issues, like multiple holes and nails in walls which they conveniently ommited, we can rectify these with photos, with smell - we cannot. How do go about making them to correct this?
Can we refuse to sign this document based on the incorrect details and request another visit with us present this time?
Shall we sign providing our details in the email?
Shall we refude to sign and make formal complaint citing that the document is simply false?
What is the best course fo action here?
What if this smell is still there in 6 months and we decide to move out?
How would you got about this? Ask for a printout of the inventory (or print out ourselves?) and write over the incorrect details, then sign it, scan it and email back to them?
if inventory not correct do not sign it . take your own photos with a date on the pics . regards the smell you can state this on a return email ask them to sign this. say if you do not agree ,we will not sign. Stand your ground. Get an unrelated person to come in and sniff, to agree on your behalf?
Solid advise, however, we have 7 working days to get our findings back to them, so saying that we will not sign, is working out great for the agent, becasue after 7 days they will move on as if there were no issues reported by tenants, right?
I think we have to get back to them before 7 days deadline, attach our pictures, list all the issues they ommited and mention the strong curry odour. Invite them to do a re-check with us present and wait and see what they’ll decide to do.
