Consumer unit upgrade?

Thinking about renting house ive just inherited but are the old fuse box legal?

It will need to have RCD protection which I don’t think it has? And you’ll need to get an EICR report in any event which if the property wasn’t previously being rented it won’t have.

You should be able to find an electrician who’ll replace the consumer unit and carry out the EICR straight afterwards.

If as a part of this the meter needs moving a short distance (less than 12” I think), the same electrician should be able to do it.

But if it’s moving any further, you’ll need to get your utility company / regional power network involved.

Just speaking from my own experience, the meter needed shifting over a bit to allow the installation of the new consumer unit which was bigger than the old one. But your layout is quite different.
