I have paid a one-week deposit when putting an offer for a property, as per OpenRent rules.
The landlord went on to accept another offer that was apparently put before mine, which means I am entitled to receive a refund, as per your Terms and Conditions.
Now “We Can Properties”, the agency managing the property in case has failed to meet their end of the agreement and are not returning my deposit.
I have chased with them several times with no luck, so I thought OpenRent should be notified of this kind of unacceptable practice from “We Can Property”.
Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.
Have you tried ringing them? Send them a formal complaint and if they still dont respond escalate the complaint to whichever redress scheme they belong to. The redress schemes have the power to fine them potentially for thousands of pounds on your behalf and its free to you to use.
Did you pay through Openrent’s RentNow process? Or did you pay the landlord directly? If you paid Openrent then the refund should be processed automatically as the landlord would have rejected it to accept the other offer. You can check this with Openrent themselves.
If you paid the landlord directly via bank transfer, you may have to go through small claims court if you’re unable to get a response from the landlord.
