EICR The spark has changed the goalposts

HI, I have an EIRC done on my empty property, a 3-bed house, it flagged up 2 C2 and 1 C3, I have done the C2’s, but now the spark is insisting that the C3 is done, surely this is wrong.

Any help would be great

what is the item listed under the c3?

C3 is satisfactory and does not need to be done

Only c1 and c2 must be done

Hi, Colin, the C3 was a spur from the socket, the C2 was a bathroom light and electric shower with a screw on the front casing

I agree but this electrical man won’t pass it, he says it might be overloaded as it’s a utility room with washing machine and a dryer,?

I agree with you but he won’t do it.

I was under the impression that if the cable was 2.5 and direct from the consumer unit it would be ok but not from another socket. But I am a joiner not a sparky

Good piint5but surely that would be a C2, this is a C3 that the spark is insisting on before they pass it off, if it was a dangerous then it would a C2,?

good point maybe an electrician will reply There is one on this blog but I cannot remember who it is

Then he needs to make it a c2

If he’s registered a c3 it’s not compulsory

Either way he’s wrong so I’d make a complaint and not pay or get a second opinion

Call his governing body and ask for clarification From their technical department

The spark needs educating. If the spur is a 2 gang socket running from the ring circuit it’s not even a C3

tell him your need him to revise his report if it doesn’t say satisfactory

so how many spurs can you have on a ring main?

A_Z who is the governing body?

He must be registered with NICEIC or nappit or one of the others

They’ll have a technical department and a complaints department

Thanks I will check it out

Thanks everyone for all your help

Actually there is no requirement to be registered to undertake EICRs

An unfused spur - One single or one double gang socket off of 2.5mm T+E. The unfused spur may also be connected to the origin of the circuit in the distribution board (Consumer unit or fuse board).

A fused spur - using an FCU(13A Fused connection unit) connected directly to the Ring - several double sockets but is dependant upon the load characteristics…

yes got that, you could not have a load of 3 bar electric fires all on spurs. Common sense has to prevail

, having taken diversity into account. (this means load sharing across sockets)
