Fee to enquire about rentals?

Hi All,

I’m new to this Application, I reached out to a landlord and they are asking for £10 fee.

Is this legit and normal on this site??

Thanks

@Hussain4

No no no…

There are no fees for making an enquiry.

Stay clear!

Hello ,

Thanks for your response. I also recieved this. So we don’t have to sign up for this to use the platform correct?

That stat of 89% of Landlords are more likely to rent to verified tenants…..is “interesting” to say the least.

Makes no odds to me (and plenty of others on this forum).

It’s designed to make you “stand out” (helps that they profit from it of course!), but over time as more and more become verified it will simply mean that tenants don’t actually stand out at all!

In your original post you stated that the charge was made by. A landlord. It is actually a service offered by Openrent. Anyway, the answer is still the same. You do not have to sign up to it.

I’ve done some thorough research and can categorically state with absolute objectivity that 89% of landlords don’t give two hoots about the fact that anyone who can afford a tenner every 60 days somehow proves that they are less likely to trash their property and make their lives a living nightmare.

Well done for asking

Openrent asking for £10 to give you their ‘verified’ status. Illegal for a LL to charge for enquiries under the Tenancy Fees Act [in England].

Yet to see a single LL here post to say they would take ‘verified status’ into account. Any sensible LL will get this info via referencing anyway if you are best candidate so don’t think personally I’d choose any tenant above another based on this myself. Maybe ask on the tenants fora whether any other tenants bought it and whether they think it made a difference.

You dont have to pay it to use the site and very few do based on enquiries I’ve received.

good luck.

Hi @Hussain4

I’m sorry to hear that this has caused some confusion.

This is an auto-generated message from OpenRent which informs you of the benefits of becoming a Verified Tenant. Rest assured that this is only visible to you as the tenant and does not in any way affect your communication with the landlord.
