The property has been rented to another tenant, how can I get my holding deposit ? Because there is no phone number or guide on this
Hi @Rochelle5
The landlord has been notified of your holding deposit application and asked to make a decision. Once they cancel the application on their end, the funds will be returned to you.
If the landlord has not accepted your application after 24 hours (from when the holding deposit application was placed) and you don’t wish to continue waiting, then you will be able to cancel here and receive a refund.
Following on from this thread….
Im also new to open rent. If I pay a holding deposit and the landlord doesn’t go with me will I receive it back?
Or if I find a different property can I withdraw and will I get my deposit back?
Obviously I know it comes off the rent if im successful.
Thank you in advance
@Lindsey_Marie not if you withdraw, you lose the holding deposit. Nor if you are uncooperative with LL attempts to reference you or are misleading.

Good luck
“Do you get your holding deposit back?
You should usually get all the money back if the landlord decides not to rent to you.
The landlord or agent might keep your holding deposit if you:
decide not to rent the property
give wrong information or tell them something that is false
do not pass a right to rent immigration check
They cannot keep your money for any other reason.
For example, you should get your holding deposit back if you fail a credit or reference check, as long as you give honest information and facts about your situation.”
Hi @Lindsey_Marie,
We have some guidance on how the holding deposit is treated here.
