ITV report on carpets in social housing

I was shocked to see on ITV news last night a report on carpets in social housing, apparently it is normal for the provider to remove all floor coverings down to the floorboards/MDF on each tenant changeover and then each tenant provide their own new ones. This sounds pretty crazy to me as a private landlord and it appears the reason is cost of putting down new ones and “hygiene and infestations” from previous tenants. It puts a different spin on the whole pets debate, why is it that social housing providers seem to be able to get away with this when a private landlord wouldn’t? not that I would even try, I would be embarrassed to let out a property with bare MDF floors!

I also noticed in the report the state of the overall decoration was appalling and I have seen other reports on mould that seem to be in social housing providers. Its so frustrating that all the regulations seem aimed at private landlords whereas social housing providers can be far worse landlords.

We had a carpet beetle infestation which I only realised after the students moved out and the professional carpet wash was complete. Until that tenancy I never had a problem.
When I googled it, it became apparent that infestations in tenancies are common. Tenants bring pests in with their bed linen and clothes etc when they move home.
It cost £30 for the carpet cleaner to spray insecticide through the house.
It’s a lot cheaper to treat the carpets than it is to rip them out and replace.
The implication of all that carpet disposal is unthinkable

so u just used this spray and it helped? what about eco-friendly pest services which work with carpets? arent they cheap too are u sure about spray effectiveness? my mother have the same problem and i dunno which i should do if u say spray is good and go to local carpet cleaner service..

You can buy insecticide on the internet
Google carpet and insecticide
I don’t know about eco friendly
I made up the vinegar solution recipe from the internet .
It doesn’t work
I stopped trying homemade recipes as it didn’t work for me
The carpet cleaner charged £30 and gave me a bottle of it ( I don’t know what it’s called he filled up the solution in an empty bottle)
It’s cheaper to do it yourself . I got a good rate as a regular customer .
Wear gloves and ffp3 mask and keep area well ventilated

thanks a lot for the answer ill try
