Hi there,
In the middle of refurbishment and we decided to do remove old kitchen tiles (35+ year old) and plan is to lay new tiles.
Today tiler’s helpers took out the tiles but they didnt take the adhesive out.
Tiler is saying its OK to tile on top of adhesive!
Is he right?? I always thought that one needs nicely leveled surface for tiling?
please let me know what you think? Should he remove old adhesive before tiling or is it ok to leave it and start new adhesive on top??
If we need to remove adhesive- what is the best method to do it?

60 x60 porcelain tile 9 mm thick
Doesn’t sound right to me, but it’s hard to assess without seeing what state the floor is in.
Did he say what he’s going to do to level off the floor so the times don’t crack once they’re down?
Have you thought about getting in a couple more tilers to give you second opinions?

got to be a very good tiler to lay those tiles over existing glue.

Maybe if they were old lino tiles and it’s just thin adhesive and maybe large 9mm porcelain would be fine… Hard to say definitively

He is going to level it with a layer with adhesive.
Then next day he is going to tile with another adhesive on top of the layer.

Yes the old adhesive is very thin 1-2 mm.
Should i ask him put self leveling compound
I am very worried!! Going to ask other builder! but problem is its very hard to find a tiler in short about of time!! And unless the tiler starts the job, we dont know how is going to do it !!
