I have a hammock in my house, where the joints are securely held into the wall. The hammock itself can be detached from the rings. I have always left it in the house with my previous tenants, always adult couple, and never had a problem. I like others to enjoy it. I have new tenants moving in soon, a couple but this time with a little one, who is around 5 years young. They liked the hammock when they came to view and were happy to hear that they could use it. However I have had a comment this week from a family member saying I should not leave it in because if someone falls from it, and there is an accident, I could be liable. Do you believe this to be true, or is it a false worry I am now concerned about?
Would appreciate any thoughts and advice. Thank you very much.
The family member is correct where there are small children you should consider how/whether to make a property child safe.
I’m told Health and safety legislation generally means it is “everyone’s “ responsibility to consider safety.
In this case I would discuss with the parents take a note of the conversation and send back to them a record of what was agreed (eg if they consider the risk is acceptable or if they want the hammock taken down - or maybe if you leave it in the property attached at one end the parents could always put up when they want to use it and take down the rest of the time- looks too high for a 5 year old to put up)
