Moving start date forward

Hi, I’m creating a new tenancy using rent now with a provisional move in date of the 1st of October. However the move in date may change and be moved forward depending on how long it takes to do any minor maintenance after the current tenants leave.

My new tenant has passed referencing so the next stage is to issue the contract. However if I issue the contract, we both sign it and the tenancy start date needs to be moved forward is it possible to change this or issue a new contract/will I be charged for this?

Maybe don’t issue the contract until you know the time-frames.

Also, what happens if your existing tenant doesn’t leave ontime. You will then be committed to providing alternative accomodation for your new tenant.

That all said, I believe you can change the move-in date after. Best to check the Openrent Help Centre for guidance of how, as I’ve never actually done it.

The current tenants will be leaving on time. They have purchased their own property and the purchase has now gone through. I also agreed to refund any rent for days they have left early.

I’ve also looked on the help centre and it mentions changing the rent payment date but I couldn’t find anything relating to start date of tenancy

As suggested, you could just take a holding deposit from the tenant to reserve it for them and create the contract later when you know the exact dates.
