Proof of advertisement for council tax purposes?

Before I advertised on OpenRent, my property was unoccupied for a short period. The council is charging 100% extra council tax for the unoccupied period - annoying but unavoidable!

However, I do not need to pay this 100% surcharge if the property was being advertised to let. How can I obtain proof of the date of OpenRent advertisement to send to the council? (The link to the advert no longer works because I have found some new tenants.)

Thank you

@Victoria58

OR will have sent you an email with a title such as

‘Your property has been listed on Openrent’

And the body text will say ‘Your property is now live on the website’

You’ll also have emails from OR telling you when people messaged you following the listing

You’ll also have an email ‘receipt for your payment’ eg if you used Rentnow

Good luck

Thanks! I’ll give these a go.

The rules on this vary depending on the circumstances, with empty homes being different to empty unfurnished homes being different to second homes. Its worth looking up the rule that applies to your situation as the premium may not be payable anyway.

Success with this, so thanks for your input :smiley:
