'RentNow' from the tenant side

I’ve seen a few posts where prospective tenants are clicking the ‘RentNow button’ on their side without actually viewing the property or being invited to apply.

I’ll be advertising my rental soon and looking to use OpenRent services.

I’m wondering how it works from the tenant side.

Seems there’s nothing to stop the anyone clicking ‘RentNow’ on the advert?? other than a warning popup advising them to ensure they have agreed with the landlord first.

I’m surprised this isn’t locked until the landlord actually wants to invite a full application & deposit.

Done to encourage use of rent now service as generates income for OR.

It’s not popular and a waste of everyones time.

I have in caps at top of my auto responder words to tell them not to use this function unless agreed with me first.

Hi @Scott30,

A Rent Now button is present on all OpenRent listing pages and this cannot be disabled. However, tenants are instructed that they need permission of the Landlord to use that feature. When a potential tenant presses the Rent Now button, you are instantly notified by SMS and email and given the opportunity to either progress the application, or cancel it at no cost to either party.

There is no obligation to use any of our services, and you are of course welcome to handle referencing, contracts, deposit protection and rent collection yourself.

Your property advertising is not affected by the tenant’s application unless you take no action.

For tenants, this gives them the peace of mind that their tenancy will be set up legally, safely and securely. You can see the guidance we offer tenants on Rent Now here.

It is a common issue.
I make it clear to tenants I will instigate the Rent Now process and they will get an invite if successful securing property.
Anybody who clicks on Rent Now without viewing I reject it and block any further communication.
Despite having to go through a number of pages and confirmations, I did get somebody say they clicked on the button accidentally. On doing so OR were magically able to obtain all their credit card details etc. and make payment on their behalf!
