Salary requirements not allowed in advert?

I have a line in my advert stating the minimum salary requirement. It keeps disappearing!

Originally it said minimum salary or rent upfront. I thought maybe they just didn’t like mentioning rent upfront so I removed that bit.

But still, the mention of minimum salary keeps getting edited out.

Any idea why this is happening? Is it something to do with making the advert compatible with Zoopla?

I also notice there isn’t an option to decline someone on the basis that they don’t meet your tenant preferences, when your preference is that a tenant can afford the rent. That’s rather odd don’t you think ?

You can reject a tenant and choose to enter a specific reason, further contact from them is then not possible. “Not today Josaphine, I don’t have a sense of humour right now”.

How do you do that? It doesn’t seem possible from this tab:

Looks like it’s recently been updated…for the worse! A few months ago you could still enter your own reason. If you can no longer do this then that’s now way too restrictive. If this is the case it will totally put me off using this website.

“I don’t allow sharers” should be there as an option too.

For when the landlord will rent to a childless couple, but not to sharers (because with their partners, it could often mean four people using the property).

This is surely a common landlord preference for city flats. And isn’t covered by “I only allow families” if the landlord doesn’t want children either.

Are you sure there is no other option at bottom?
Note this is from an old listing so yours may be different.

It is a long time since I had to advertise can you you still say “sorry I cannot help you” Then press a Reject button ? Giving a reason leaves you wide open to abuse

Mark, these are the only options available for declining an enquiry:

Colin, no, sadly that isn’t available as an option.

This is way too restrictive. Everyone will end up putting tenant not cooperating or moving forward with different applicants.

I ve got one to let shortly Do you mean to say that you cannot reply with your own message back to someone who enquires and is not suitable you HAVE to choose from the above box ??

Yes for me it’s the case that I have to pick one of those options or just leave the enquiry unanswered.

But curiously it sounds like Tim does have the option of writing in his own reasons.

Could it be about what browser we’re using or whether we have the app? I’m on an iPhone so my only option is Safari.

Ahhhh I’ve cracked it!

It’s visible in the list of options if I scroll down. I didn’t realise it scrolled.

That will make you happy !!

I think that Openrent have probably hidden that option from normal use to try to keep landlords safe from prosecution for discrimination. You do have to be very careful what you say in rejecting and applicant, so I suggest you think hard before using that box to write your own reason.

I am doing it now, and there’s still the option “Other” at the bottom of the list, with a box where you can elaborate. I find it more respectful when you enter the exact reason which is not in the drop-down menu. Applicants are not kept in the dark and have a proper feedback.

And what if the exact reason is I dont like the look of you?

Can you see a problem with “sorry I cannot help you”? in that box

Proceeding with another application is what I use.
