Served S21 in Dec 2025 and notice expired in February 12th 2026. The tenant is still living the flat and paid this months rent, but received an email from the housing association (mental) asking if the tenant is paying rent, property in good condition then why the landlord served S21 to the tenant. They are asking for a statement why the S21 was served. Please advise thanks S

It isn’t really any of their business. Just tell them it is because of the Renters Rights Act and leave it at that.
I would suggest not providing any specific reason relating to the tenancy or the tenant. Housing Association or tenant may be looking for grounds to contest the s21 when it comes to court (for example evidence of retaliatory/revenge eviction if it followed a complaint).
I would simply reply
‘I have served an s21 because as the Landlord I require possession of the property. ‘
which is the only explanation needed and matches the wording in form 6a which you will have used, hopefully
