Signing tenancy agreement before confirmed availability date

If the property availability date (i.e. start date of the tenancy) is not yet confirmed, can the tenancy agreement be signed or should it only be done once the date is confirmed?

What about tenant deposit? Can this be taken before the date is confirmed and the tenancy agreement is signed?

As above, both a tenancy and a tenancy contract need specific dates.
