Demi, don’t send money without viewing. I know people could send them to legitimate letting agents without viewing given the competitive difficult nature of renting these days, but I wouldnt send anything to an individual sharing their documents

Thank you I did think it was suspect and he was very pushy regarding me sending the 900 to secure the property
Saying he isn’t doing viewings now he has too many requests to do viewings but he is instead doing a first come first serve on who gives the money first
That definitely sounds like a scam. No decent landlord would accept any tenant on a “first come first serve” basis in this way. I would report the listing to Openrent straight away.

I am not desperate we do need a house yes but desperate no I just thought was questionable I would never hand over money without viewing a property and the more I pushed to view the more he pushed for money

Hi, the property is still available.
If you want to secure the property I would require a £900 deposit, the deposit is fully refundable, I would take the deposit, and email you a receipt / invoice for the deposit.
The deposit would go to the DPS deposit projection scheme ( by law it has to) the deposit is fully refundable. I’ve cancelled all viewings due to the fact I’ve for over 30+ people wanting to view and simple don’t have the time to allow 30 people to view. This is the only want moving forward.

What he is suggesting is illegal. The purpose for which he is taking the deposit is to reserve the property, so its a Holding Deposit not a security deposit and doesnt need to be protected. However the amount is capped at one weeks rent by law.
