The Reposit scheme

Hi, I dont understand the Reposit scheme which my tenants have opted for. We have a problem as to who pays for the replacement tumble dryer. The tenant said it wasn’t working intermittantly and when my home maintenance person inspected it he couldn’t find anything wrong with it apart from the fact that the drum now had a hole in it. The tenant eventually admitted responsibility for the hole but says it also has a problem. So he has refused to pay for a second hand replacement. I asked the tenant not to use the damaged drum because I didn’t want to be liable in anyway if their clothes were damaged. He found a second hand tumble dryer which I paid for because he refused to pay and agreed to let reposit decide. But I don’t think reposit does this. Does anyone know what reposit actually does to enable the landlord to get back any monies owing for rent or for damage etc? From what I gather the landlord has to ask the tenant for monies owing and if the tenant doesn’t pay there doesn’t seem anything that the landlord can do other than court action and a lot of stress. Please tell me I’m wrong.

You can only make a claim from Reposit when the tenancy is ended to cover any damage left in comparison to the property when the tenant moved in.

At that time, log into the Reposit website, select your tenancy, and initiate the checkout process, to make a claim.

If you have your engineers report saying nothing wrong with the tumble dryer other than a hole, and evidence the tenant admitted the hole was their fault, then I doubt you will have a problem claiming.

Hi Karl, Many thanks for replying that sounds really good. But then is it Reposit who would reimburse me or would it be up to the tenants?

Have you read the Reposit website? I’m sure all this information is available as guidance to Landlords.
