To let sign on property

Can the landlord put a to let sign on the property if he hasn’t served my notice or I haven’t given my notice??I was told to renew my tenancy I had to pay 100 which I haven’t got so now I’m in a periodic tenancy

Hi Lisa,

There’s nothing to stop a landlord advertising a property to let at any time.

Whether they will be able to void the property (i.e. make sure a tenant isn’t living there in time for the new tenants to move in) is a different question altogether.

If you are now on a periodic tenancy, then the landlord will (unless it says differently in your tenancy agreement) be able to serve two months notice.

In this case it might make sense for them to find new tenants first, agree a move in date more than 2 months away, and immediately serve you notice.

We’d recommend being in touch with your landlord/agent to get their intentions and, if possible, agree a plan of how to proceed in the tenancy.
