Hi All, I’ve a tenant in my property and their tenancy contract is due to expire early next year, which I do not wish to renew. What is the process to advise that I’m not going to renew? Does the tenant get moved onto a rolling contract and for how long do they typically get to find somewhere else to move into? Thanks.
A fixed term automatically converts into a periodic tenancy with no end date. To end the tenancy you need to give notice and then potentially enforce via courts if they don’t leave.
The current normal way of ending a tenancy is a section 21 notice which gives them 2 months. The notice date cant be before end of fixed term. Once rrb comes into force s21 will be scrapped and you would only be able to end for certain reasons.
