I spoke with a potential landlord via Open Rent yesterday to arrange a viewing. The landlord had very strict requirements regarding the documentation they required before they’d agree to a viewing and that didnt sit well with me so I explained that I felt it was too much and I’d rather not go any further.
As I was explaining this to her she hung up.
And a few minutes later I got a text from her which was abusive and accusatory and I found it offensive.
Has anybody else ever experienced this and did Open Rent do anything about it?
I was looking for a house a few years ago and one landlord rang me after I made an enquiry. It was a lovely house and the landlords were a retired couple just trying to top up their pension etc, felt like the ideal home until she asked for 3 YEARS of bank statements. I honestly don’t know where some landlords get the idea they have the right to ask for more than a mortgage lender would ask for.
That’s entirely different. It’s expected for lenders to request multiple years of accounts for self employed borrowers and typically use an average of the last 3 years income as your annual income, however, for an employed borrower, a lender will never ask for 3 years of bank statements so an employed tenant should not have to supply 3 years of bank statements to rent a house.
