About a year ago, my tenant’s partner died suddenly when she was about 35 years old, she left my tenant wit 3 children under 10 including one with cerebral palsy. He has just told me that the local Council will stop his benefits in two months.
Is there anything he can do to maintain his benefits? He wants me to issue him with a Section 21 notice so he can present this to the council, is this the right thing to do?
Surely ALL his benefits cannot be ending?
His bereavment benefits are I havent enquired too closely yet as he is still in shock. He told me immediately, his greatest concern is the security of his kids. What can he (we) do?
this situation would be a shock. .There will be other options but he needs advice from the local council/ /CAB
He should enquire with the CAB what he is entitled to.
Update: the tenant has visited the council and apparently they are now far more sympathetic. I am watching this space.
Tenant phoned me at the weekend (April 2nd 2025) and insisted that I evict him as his benefits are definitely reducing and eviction is the only way he will be re-housed by the local council This is expensive of course, could cost £10,000 by the time he and his young, disabled children are thrown out, Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this, the eviction, not the expense
?
Why £10,000? (20 cgaracters)
Im told it will take 6 months, Im assuming no rent and solicitors fees.
No reason for him not to pay the rent. Speak to Bill Irvine of Universal Credit Advice. He is a benefits expert.
Thanks David, the reason he wont pay the rent is because he wont have the income. I dont know who Mr Irvine is but Ill Google it.
