I am an International student living outside the UK and will be moving to the UK in 2 months. So, I was looking for student accommodation and got a good one, but once I proceeded with the payment it asked for a UK number and a UK debit card.
How can I proceed with my application if I don’t have a UK number and UK debit card right now?
@Bhargvi - I’m afraid to place a holding deposit, and specific other actions on the site you need a UK number / UK debit card. I suspect you’ve already seen this, but we make this clear in our FAQ (that is linked to from the relevant parts of the site / if you run into this):
Unfortunately at the current time there isn’t a workaround to this due to the fraud protections we offer to tenants and landlords, and the increased risks associated with non-uk non-debit cards.
We’d always advise being in the UK to view properties in person, and if you are in the UK then having a local phone number and local bank account is fairly helpful for a number of reasons. You should be able to set up both from your temporary accommodation quickly.
We appreciate moving country is difficult, and these are extra obstacles for an already difficult process, but for the safety of all our users we often need to make these difficult choices.
@Karl11 - We try to very clearly sign-post this to tenants, but it can be a difficult answer to accept in the moment. Especially when your ideal property is likely to be let before you can set-up the required documents. If you want to link me to the other posts you’re referring to I’ll make sure they are answered appropriately.
