Hi, I am a homeowner considering renting out my property at some point next year. I need to renew my insurance and I wonder can I get policy that will cover both owner-occupier and if the property is rented. Or if I can ‘convert’ the policy. Or do I just need to cough up for two policies
I doubt whether you can convert private home cover to landlord cover. Many companies that provide private home insurance don’t even offer landlord cover so it won’t be possible. Direct Line is one company I know of that offers both. I am not endorsing them but you could run it past them and see what they say.
You’ll normally be able to ‘cancel’ the active policy, and they will provide a pro-rata refund of premium (allowing for any admin cost), and then you take out a new policy for the new use.
