If I was a landlord I wouldnt put myself in this position I would price myself out of the peoples reach with mental illness
I damaged a property in Morecambe in 2014 and was not supported by the council Richmond Fellowship. They acted in the Landlords best interests instead of mine. I ended up losing my possessions and around £25000 due to this. I am receiving the relevent support regarding this.
I ended up being sectioned and ended up in a mental health hospital for 3 months.
@kevincairns57 how would you do that in practice? What rent level would you set? How on earth do you know the max somebody with mental illness can afford?
Anyway suppose they develop the problem after starting renting with you?
Best
sorry to hear that
Best
I would look at the amount that the government is willing to pay in rent and make sure that the property costs more to rent. I was paying £80 a week this was not enough to find somewhere suitable
I have been on benefits since 2006
I was a tenant not a landlord
What is the question on this post?
would landlords take the risk taking in someone with mental illness?
as with all applicants, it’s a matter of managing risk and comes down to treating individuals as individuals. There’s therefore no “right” answer to your question.
private rented property is not suitable for people with mental illness due to the cost of suitable private rented properties
