Is the deposit when leaving done through open rent or in private with the landlord ? My old landlord has sent me a list of stuff that he wants me to pay for that I don’t agree with and I’m not sure how to properly appeal it. I moved in and the microwave wasn’t working so I replaced it and now he’s changing me for the microwave even though I payed to get a new one… even though I left the one I bought (I also payed for a new washing machine as he wouldn’t pay even though there was one there when I moved in) also the floor is uneven when I was hoovering a piece of the hard floor came up (I think it was worse as there was a leak a few days before as the heating wasn’t working for 2 weeks after moving in in November) I also have proof the floor is uneven. Overall I’m not happy with him. He’s charging me for leaving stuff that was there when I moved in too… and the back door was broke for 2/3 months and he never fixed it hence why I left. Now hes trying to get the whole deposit too which just isn’t fair…
When you signed the tenancy, You should have been provided with a copy of the deposit prescribed information. If this contract was signed digitally via Openrent, this would have been emailed to you directly by Openrent. So check your email & have a read, and see if that helps.
Depending on how old your Openrent tenancy is, depends on the refund procedure. Does this not show if you log into the Openrent portal for your tenancy?
It doesn’t. Everything is gone to do with that property. The landlord is also informing me of the deposit through emails and not open rent itself which isn’t how I thought it worked
If you paid the holding deposit to the Landlord, then they should have provided Prescribed information. You would likely have received communication at the time from the deposit holding scheme, assuming the Landlord had correctly lodged the deposit with one. Normally, either you or the Landlord can instigate a repayment via the holding deposit scheme website login. The other party will then be contacted for agreement of distribution amounts.
If you paid to Openrent, they WOULD HAVE provided by email. you need to find that email.
Are you sure you cant see ‘ended tenancies’. I’m not a tenant, but as a Landlord I can still access all my old ended tenancies on the portal.
