Mark 10 WE are wasting our breath yet again. She is miffed Pay 3 months up front and then pay monthly in the 4th month is ok as she will have to stay a minimum of 6 months anyway >Maybe the people the landlord chose earned more than her. She will never know if that is so I for one am out of here Coleen . I am sure you will get the landlord you deserve .Bye.
My last post.
These are completely different things.
Security deposit of any more than 5 weeks rent is illegal.
Paying 3/6/12 months rent in advance is not and perfectly acceptable.
Mark and Colin I’m not miffed… I have a property I will be renting from the 1st I paid one month rent and 5 weeks deposit. I have no problem with landlords I’ve had a couple and they were decent unfortunately my current landlord passed away and his family want the house so I have to move. Why you paint me as a privileged single woman is beyond me. I work hard to take care of myself and you thinking it’s okay for me to give someone like you £10k to hold on to for maybe 1-5 years is laughable. I’m allowed an opinion and mine is its daylight robbery and discrimination against people. Not many people have that kind of money to save I don’t know what my future will be so my savings are important to me in case I need to help my family. So forgive me if I offend you (lol) but don’t be a greedy landlord we all the same don’t ask one person for extra money and another stick to the rules.
I’m sorry but you are literally clueless. Nobody has said this at any point.
For the 20th time, pay 3 months in advance, then pay rent as normal. You have to pay that rent anyway, it’s just a couple of months in advance.
5 weeks security deposit and that’s it!
Colin… go back and read. The landlord chose me and took holding deposit etc so please don’t be miffed when you didn’t read properly.
Save it… I don’t have to… good bye
Yep, privileged, loud and cannot listen to facts.
The first opinion is ingrained. You’ll get the landlord you deserve.
Off you pop.
You are asking a LL to entrust you with a very valuable asset that would take considerable time, effort & money to get back should you chose to stop paying rent. YOU may know you will be a great tenant, but the LL doesn’t!
You are in a market where LLs feel they are losing control over their property & so take actions that they believe minimise their risk. Its also a market where LLs often have a wide choice of tenants to chose from so either you accept their terms or you look elsewhere.
its your choice whether to accept the LLs terms but at least try to understand what might be behind those terms.
Wasting your time Tricia . She does not understand ,or chooses not to understand. that paying 3 months in advance means you pay no more till the 4th month is due , and then one month at a time . Anything else is illegal. If you find a landlord that wants one month in advance then that is ok as well. When people shout discrimination for any reason it is usually because they did not get their own way and were not chosen , hence you will never reason with them
I think they deliberately moved goal posts once they realised what an ignorant PITA she would be.
You are not being discriminated against if a landlord chooses someone other than you unless their choice was based on one you having one of the protected characteristics. These being here: Discrimination: your rights: Types of discrimination ('protected characteristics') - GOV.UK
Note. That discrimination related to married status only applies to discriminating against someone at work (no where else) and because they are married/in a civil partnership, not because they’re single.
Therefore you are not being discriminated against because you are single. You are, unfortunately, not being chosen, but that’s the landlord’s prerogative, probably based on an economic analysis of prospective tenants, which is perfectly valid.
Just like to say that more than half of my properties are occupied by single mums, so don’t judge me, I’m just stating facts!!
