I was curious if this takes place and if anyone knows what criteria are used when applying moderation blocks and moderating submitted text?
Yes, moderation happens constantly, as it should with any public forum. There was a long and often entertaining thread on this topic not too long ago.
You’re best off jumping in here: Is this censorship? - #27 by Daz
Thanks and yes lengthy
The thing I cannot work out is almost everything I post is moderated and not sure why as moderation in public forums is the process of monitoring and managing online discussions to ensure they remain respectful, relevant, and safe for all participants.
Software or moderators actively review and filter user generated content, such as comments, posts, and messages, to prevent the spread of harmful or offensive content.
I just tried to start a topic to help new landlords with .gov step by step guide and again moderated so why would that be, maybe faulty software as there is clearly not a breach of guidelines or terms and conditions.
It is is the filtering not being as modern as those I am used to as found the format that works now so all good as not being censored.
I do agree with Daz on the long thread that we should follow the guidelines and terms and conditions and for me that should not be because we agreed to them but actually support them. I get why we have to agree so all good.
In addition to the standard automatic moderation, presumably based upon key-words etc, I suspect there might be manual overrides where some users are put on ‘watch’, to force more active moderation, particularly where the users previous participation hasn’t followed the forum guidelines.
A recent user for example, suggested that regular posters on this forum needed to get a life, and find more fulfilling hobbies, and I’m sure with such conduct, the moderators would want to keep a look out for their future posts.
I’m not suggesting that this is the case for you of course, as I don’t work for Openrent, so wouldn’t know.
Not sure what your point is Karl so cannot add anything useful here.
I see a lot of likes and laughing about your comments in your last post Karl, do you or any of those that must understand what you saying care to explain or is it an in joke?
I think in line with the previous conversation from Karl, that landlords of emotional maturity should always maintain their professionalism as:
General rights in the primary law addressing harassment in the UK that is the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
This act covers a wide range of harassing behaviors, including online harassment, and provides both criminal and civil remedies.
Particularly pertinent in online forums and would include a pattern of moderation using flagging truthful content and other moderation that would not be seen as reasonable. I do not need to point out the obvious that any moderation manual or automatic and it’s overuse or misuse would be the same. We have clear law that apply to landlords and all other moderators about who is responsible and accountable for automated systems and that would take us off topic so I will close here.
Thoughts?
In my personal opinion those words are not funny and the likes seem to suggest that others think it is so I ask you all to consider the very serious subject of there not being a specific medical diagnosis for people who primarily live their lives online, but there are several mental health conditions that can contribute to this behaviour.
Social anxiety disorder is a condition that makes it difficult for people to interact with others in person, leading them to prefer online interactions.
People avoidant personality disorder tend to avoid social situations and relationships due to fear of rejection or criticism.
Depression can lead to feelings of isolation and withdrawal from social activities, making online interactions more appealing.
Internet addiction is a behavioural addiction characterised by excessive use of the internet, which can lead to neglect of real life responsibilities and relationships.
Not really a funny subject guys and if I expressed concern in past posts it is because I am concerned about people’s welfare when I see the incredible amount of time a select few individuals spend in this forum.
I am now busy with other things and getting worried about the time I am starting to lose by being on here so it will be less and I leave it to others to decide on their wellbeing.
Karl 11. I think we are all getting the picture now , with regard to comments made. Maybe some folks just cannot help themselves, and it goes on and on and on .
Colin3, I certainly have the picture now and raised the appropriate complaint with OpenRent, printed all my activity, flags, moderations and the topics as screenshots as maybe this will go further and harassment is not a laughing matter, as I am sure Ofcom will agree.
Finished printing pdfs this afternoon so as I said, I have other things to do so will be ignoring further commentary as spam!
Awe lovely emojis you are soo nice and missing you already
Karl !! Who was it that suggested regular posters need to get a life? I must have missed that bit
I’d rather not mention their poster id, as whilst we haven’t heard from them for about 10 days, my post was simply providing one example of where Openrent might have to apply additional moderation, and wasn’t intended to be a personal attack on the poster of this subject.
@Darren34. I know you have only been a member of the forum for just over a week, but trust me, it is generally a light hearted forum, where the posters try & help each other. You’ll see this if you read back through previous posts. Please try not to get overly worked up about things, and accept peoples postings in a positive way whether or not they agree with your opinion. I genuinely have no idea why my simple post has been escalated to reports to Openrent, and what appear to be threats of complaints to Ofcom. I certainly have nothing to fear from this but it is not what we come here for.
Nobody wants to be a member of a toxic forum. It appears you have certainly taken offence to certain members on this forum, and I am concerned about what appears to be serious over-reaction to forum chats. It’s not something I want to be a part of, so please excuse me if I choose not to engage further with you. It seems for the best.
Karl 11 .found it . How ironic,. I will follow your example in not replying.
Thank you for your apology and a shame I have been excluded by the silly occurrences anyway apologies accepted
