Looking for advice please, a tenant was broken into last month and the police called out a company to board up the damaged door to secure the property. As the landlord do I have to pay for this? I was not contacted by the police or the company that boarded up, I have already paid for the door to be replaced. I’m sure this must happen quite often.
If it’s the door that’s part of the structure of the building, then it’s your responsibility under your buildings insurance

As landlord you are responsible for making your property habitable safe and secure for your tenants whether a new front door or temporary solution first.. so why wouldn’t you pay for this?
If the amount quoted is excessive you could query it but are you really saying that if the police had contacted you first you would not have given them permission to get it boarded up to secure the place?
Check your building insurance may cover it anyway
Good luck
