I’ve arranged a viewing for a property, but whilst doing my own due diligence, I became a little suspicious. I noticed the same property is listed on OpenRent under the “landlords profile” at different prices but with identical photos and details - the only other difference was the available from date.
The “landlord” requested my telephone number, but when I asked for theirs, they didn’t respond. I also asked if they were the landlord or the agent for the property, but I didn’t get an answer to that either.
After doing some digging, I found that the profile picture of the “landlord” doesn’t match the name on the listing, the name associated with the photo is completely different from what is listed on OpenRent.
I also called the building where the property is located and the concierge mentioned that the landlord would normally notify them before conducting viewings. This hasn’t happened, which adds to my concerns.
Even if a third party is looking after the property for the landlord, wouldn’t there be some transparency about who they are and their role in the process? This lack of clarity has made me a bit wary and I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something like this before. Should I be concerned? Any advice on how to approach this situation would be really helpful.
