My partner and I are looking to rent our first home. We have been living with parents and are in a great financial position to begin renting. We do not have a previous landlord’s reference to give when we are applying for these homes. Is there a way around this, could we provide an alternative, or will landlord’s understand that we do not have a reference, although we do have employers references?
This won’t be an issue in itself most will understand, but it is a very competitive market. Squeeky clean credit and healthy income and having savings will go along way. Stable employment history will also look good.
Volunteering a homeowner guarantor with adequate income (usually 3 x rent) will help your position.
