I had an email from OpenRent asking me to renew my Gas Safety Certificate way too early. I’ve now received an email saying they will automatically book it and take payment. Can they do this?
Erm yes if you signed a contract allowing them to do so..
Just cancel and book (plus the annual service).yourself

Thanks. I haven’t knowingly signed a contract with them. Anyway I have cancelled and if I reapply I will check the small print more thoroughly!

Not sure how long “way too early” is, but you can do a gas safety check 2 months in advance of expiry and have the engineer date the cert for a year from when the current cert expires. Just thought I’d mention it in case you weren’t aware.

I do understand that but I’d like the check to be done every 12 months, not 10 months and then 14 months. It just feels like Openrent are in a hurry to take their cut.

well it would only be 10 months the first time and then every 12 months after that if you do it 2 months in advance. No obligation to use OR though.
