Honest Tennant in a rut

Hi There, I was hoping to get an insight on some landlords opinions. Me and my partner have been renting privately for 3 years we have never missed a payment, we both work full time and have been looking for a house as we just want something with a garden now. Now my issue is I have a snake. As soon as I mention this we are rejected straight away. It literally lived in a securely locked vivarium there is no way out and I just can’t understand the issue. It’s not chewing skirting boards or doing it’s feed on the carpets. But it’s like they read that and we’re completely shut down. We can get work references landlord reference but it’s just not good enough. It’s getting impossible

How big is the snake and vivarium?

Is it a dangerous snake if it escaped, (however unlikely that is)? If so, there may be insurance issues to consider.

even a small snke can be a problem. Pit bull types are worse ,think how many peoople have been killed by a bad dog

Hi, it’s just a cornsnake non venomous and not harmful. She is around 5 ft and the vivarium is I guess the size of a small wardrobe, she’s always curled up as snakes are so you wouldn’t even think she is that length to be honest

It wouldn’t particularly bother me if everything else about you was fine, but if there is any other reason giving doubt to a landlord then the snake issue could be the straw to break the camel’s back. You have to remember a landlord is always comparing you with other tenants who may be less complicated.

Another angle is that It’s a chance to secure a potential long term tenant who will struggle to find anywhere else.

I I would rather a tenant with a corn snake ,than with a big dog and the fouling that comes with it

Please don’t stereotype. It’s not pit bulls it’s the owners of any (bad dog)
Bad behaviour is learnt through no training

I just knew that would draw a reply

And some dog breeds arnt unpredictably savage at the drop of a hat no matter how much they’ve been trained? Being primal isnt learned, that part comes natural and always remains somewhere.
