well said Mark .but i doubt the milionaires in parliment will think along our lines
I campaign for disabled kids rights as well…feels like they just don’t listen in Parliament. But hey ho, will persevere.
Was unsuccessful, but received very helpful feedback.
Although I could currently make the additional payments for the UC shortfall, landlord worried about rising costs of utilities and how that may place pressure in future.
Which is actually very valid points. So, still looking. But I hope to get somewhere eventually with this landlord due to their honesty.
I am still looking. I have been trying to find a property for over two years I wish you luck in your search.
Hi Tammy, you write you are a full time, stay at home mother/carer who runs a charity? Presumably as a director of that charity, you will derive an income, which could possibly help you in your search?
I initially supported the Government’s proposal to put the responsibility of rental payment by social housing tenants in their own hands. At the time my thinking was it would ensure the tenant would see just how much these benefits cost the taxpayer in addition to other financial supports
- realising they were onto a winner and encouraging responsibilityand maturity.
The much unfairly maligned Fergus Wilson spoke out years ago that young families need homes with gardens to flourish, not flats, and intil a few years ago he provided them in Ashford, Kent. Yet still his tenants complained.
However, I changed my view on the payment system on reading over years just how lax and contra the housing departments are in forcing the tenants to pay by obstructing payment to the landlord wherever possible. Essentially subversively encouraging the tenant to play the landlord and disregard their signed tenancy agreement together with obligations resulting in no redress or drawn out legal processes being too expensive.
You are now one of those experiencing the repercussions of the anti landlord policy changes. Not to mention the changes proposed to Section 21 and previous tax introduction via section 24 against private sector non-limited company landlords and more.
You thought that paying the tenant HB would help Them ??? Really !! My first thought when the stupid GOV said it “will help tenants handle their responsibilities better” ,was What a load of rubbish , some will be tempted to spend it elsewhere . I have been proved right. Social landlords are owed millions… Thjnk I will accomodate such people ? Not a chance with me , I would rather keep a place empty
Yes, foolishly, i did. Added together these payments and often, rarely written about, extras represent a higher take home pay than that of the working person’s.
My constant question is where are the fathers in these equations and what support are they asked for? Whst happens if they are in prison?
My mortgage provider prohibits social housing tenants do I am not affected by this situation, but of course anyone can lose their job, and the change in circumstances, utility bills affects everyone.
you cannot believe what goverments and local authority people tell us they will LIE to get their own way Was it £350 million a week we would save and spend on the NHS if we left the EU AND control our own borders ? Hands up everyone who believed him
Unfortunately about 50% of the population! 35million roughly
So if they lose job and go onto benefits you are required to turf them out?
I understand the intention of kindness behind the sentiments.
But ANYONE can find themselves in this situation, that’s the sad reality.
Partner bereavement, job loss, terminal illness. All those and many other factors can trigger a sad chain of events which can take a middle class blue collar manager to the UC office.
The “No DSS” statements in the OR adverts are a variation on the “No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs” signs of previous generations😔
“We are all just two and a half months payslips away from homelessness”…
Unfortunately many have lost the mentality of making plans to cater for financial set backs. People would rather spend every bit of disposable income they have (even pre living crisis).
It’s true that anyone can find themselves on benefits through no fault of their own. Until the mechanism changes whereby landlords gets paid direct by default and cannot change then UC claimants will remain an absolute no for many, regardless of what the law states.
2 and a half payslips? may be for many but not for those who do not drink, gamble and .smoke. As Mark rightly said many do not save for a rainy day they spend up to the hilt with no reserves. Then want someone else to carry the can. My aim was always to pay off my mortgage and use my reserves for my kids benefit. to ensure they will not be without a home
What does that mean? You run a charity for your own benefit?
I have never needed to check this out, but most probably would have to give notice due to affordability. This clause by mortgage companies is not unusual.
