If tenants fail to move out, do we have to amend the moving out date on openrent?

Hi, I would really appreciate it if someone could help with this situation.

A Section 21 notice has been served, and the tenants are supposed to move out by the end of June. However, they have now sent me a message saying they won’t be able to leave by that date. Of course, legal proceedings will be initiated after the move-out date if they haven’t vacated.

My question is: Do I need to amend the move-out date on OpenRent to keep the rent log clear? We don’t want to return the deposit until the tenants have vacated the property. Will amending the date affect the validity of the Section 21 notice?

They haven’t "moved out " until they have actually gone. Forget what the contract says, as far as you are concerned - the moving out date is the day they sign the check-out.
Rent is payable until then

can i ask how about after the date they failed to move out, I need to keep the rent log as clear as I can see

I never enter the end contract date into Openrent until they have actually moved out. It has no legal effect, and just shuts down the tenancy on Openrent, so it shows as ‘past’, instead of ‘current’.

Have you tried changing it. Does it allow you to do so?
