I own a couple of two bed flats. Over the last few months, Ive rented out both of these properties but I have gotten a relatively high number of people who say they can pay 6 months in advance and then their kids will going from abroad in a few months. Is this a scam?

If I got a one or two people in this situation, I wouldn’t worry, but there have been lots of them. If this is a scam, what would it be?

I don’t think its a scam, at least not one on you. I think its people who have come here to work and need an address before they can bring the rest of their family over. Bear in mind that anyone over 18 needs a Right to Rent, regardless of whether they’re named on the tenancy.

Personally, I never take large sums of advance rent. Its usually indicative of affordability issues.
