I've entered into an IVA and now need to move by the 1st week of April

Hi all,

I have entered into an IVA, unfortunately for me, 2 weeks later I was given a notice 21 for the property i’ve lived in for 3 years. The timing couldn’t have been worse. I have struggled for a month to try and find a place with no luck. I’m being honest with everyone. My partner hasn’t got any rent history and her credit rating is good, we’ve tried together so much that her credit rating has dropped by over 100 points. We both have a steady income of over £75000 combined annually. Can anyone please point us in the right direction? Are there any landlords on here willing to give us a trial by contract? Willing to live in Hertfordshire or London.

Its going to raise massive red flags for Landlords. A combined annual income of over £75k, yet still over-committed with debt. Hopefully, you have a legitimate reason that you can explain to the LL, which might help.

As an example recently, I had a applicant with a CCJ, not yet satisfied, a balance of £3k, and being paid off at £100pm, yet they were earning over £4k per month! My reaction was that this was very poor money management & not taking debt seriously. They should have paid off much quicker to draw a line over previous mistakes, and move on to build their credit score.

My decision was to reject them, as in the current market I had other applicants without this risk.

I have never checked my credit score, never ever . Do not know what is good or bad.

Divorce is a killer, not just because of the emotional toll it takes on you. When you make the commitment, its with a plan for life. In my case I wasn’t ready for the mental and emotional toll it took on my life. My finances took a huge hit, then covid hit, for 2 years I tried working multiple jobs to clear debts my ex wife (Living abroad) left me with, it got to the point where, I had to seek help. My current partner is not at fault, i’m the one in the middle of my life fix, I’ve now affected her with it, just need a chance to prove that alone or in a reliable partnership, my finaces are managed perfectly. When left with over £50,000 debts, and still paying living costs, it wasn’t possible, I had to put my pride aside, and start from scratch.

I was down and on the verge of giving up, I was thinking that this Society does not leave room for people trying to mend situations sometimes they dont have any control over, with the help of Stevenage Borough Council and the Guinness Partnership group, I have now been given a brand new apartment, from where i can rebuild my life. I’m determined to be in a position to help anyone in my position in the future, even if its just by posting my struggles.

I’m really glad you have had a happy ending. Its getting so difficult for people in your situation to find rental property at the moment, and hopefully your story will help to inspire others to keep on trying.
