Hi, I’m new to open rent, I saw a property, and I wanted to put an offer.
Landlord send me his bank details, he didn’t want to do it through open rent.
Because is a private landlord not a company I asked for a photo ID and the deposit scheme protection.
His reply was the following
That would put me off. It is the sort of thing scammers say
The grammar is better than most fraudsters, but If it were me and a tenant was asking for ID etc I would be putting their mind at ease.
You viewed in person? Did you meet them? Have all other things added up? Did you see the current tenant?
It’s pretty normal to pay deposit direct to the LL.
What are they asking for upfront, a weeks rent as a deposit?
Wow, you don’t want that person as a Landlord. What horrible things to say.
I know, I blocked him, and he said that I have doubts and don’t trust him, I sound like a red flag for a prospective tenant.
I checked the flat in person and met (the landlord? ) is just 2 flats there. Didn’t meet the other tenants.
Bullet… dodged…
well done
You could do a property search to see if the owner and LL match, I think its £3.50, nothing for peace of mind for now or in the future.
He’s a scammer or if not, he’ll be an awful landlord. Run a mile.
Avoid avoid avoid…this is similar to how I do business with a tenant but I give them every assurance and a signed contract before they pay me…i take payment on that day I mean when they sign the contract and I show them my ID and landlord certificate
