Landlord wont sign until day before/day of

If anyone has experienced landlords refusing to sign until the day before / the day of / continually putting it off, please let me know how this resolved and what you learned!

I think you will find it quite common. Personally, I’m happy to sign in advance, as it provides the Tenant too, with some certainty.

if their existing tenant hasn’t moved out, they may be reluctant to sign until they have.

I don’t sign until the move in date . Solicitors usually advise this in the event of an unforeseen circumstance.

I always give the tenant a draft copy of the tenancy agreement in advance, but the paper copies are all signed by both parties on move-in day. This is partly for unforeseen circumstances as A_A says and partly the practicalities of getting people together before that.

This will, of course have to be adapted under the Renters Rights Act, which requires tenancies to be granted before money changes hands.
