Lead Tenant died – issues with deposit refund from OpenRent and death certificate

They have told you they will get back as soon as possible. Just wait for it

Thank you so much. I was waiting since my contract end 10.10.2025 I sent Death certificate from 11.12.2025 i am fusterated because it has been over a week. How long would it take normally? I recieved another email to contact “My deposit claim” i confused. Do i need to do that?

You have not been waiting since 10th of October, you’ve been waiting since last week when you provided the death certificate. It is not Openrent’s fault that you couldn’t provide death certificate sooner.

@Dan4 @mod_harry please can you give @Auracha an update? It’s been 6 days since you confirmed you received her email sent 4 days earlier. I’m sure xmas is an expensive time for her like everyone else, so what’s the delay?

@Auracha maybe check with LL to find out if deposit was “automatically returned” to LL (as screenshot higher up suggests might have happened) and get it back direct from LL if so?

ps if you had another email saying to contact “mydeposit claim” I’d follow whatever instructions were in that. The deposit scheme are independent of OR and it may be that dealing with them direct will be more effective tho @mod_harry above did say OR have a process and you have followed it by providing the death certificate as required so it’s hard to know what is now holding things up

Currently, I am writing to follow up on the email I received on Dec 18th asking for my bank details (which I have sent promptly on the same date). I am still waiting for the funds to arrive in my account. ​I have been trying to fix the flat for my landlord and doing my best, yet nearly three months have passed without my deposit being returned

While I have yet to receive the funds, I am pursuing the necessary steps, including investigating the possibility of an ‘automatically returned’ deposit with the LL (Landlord), as you wisely suggested, and considering direct contact with the deposit scheme.

& all within less than 20 days of you sending the Death certificate in to Openrent & over the festive period.
