Linked roof space

I have just bought a terraced property that I intend to rent out after I bring it up to standard. The roof space extends into neighbouring properties which is not unusual for late Victorian houses. My survey report indicated that this is a fire hazard but the estate agent selling the property said that it’s just the surveyor covering himself (yes, I understand both would say that wouldn’t they). The estate agent said they manage rental properties and do not require a firewall separating the roof space from the neighbours.

Can anyone give advice or point to guidelines on this.

I am a builder . You definitely need t block up in the loft space . from the party wall all the way up to the roof felt A pain of a job for access . I have done a few of these . Fire prevention and burglar prevention. . I bet estate agents have never been up into a roof space when viewing a property to sell I have bought and sold many places , never have they gone into the roof space. Ceilings need supporting as this job is done because of the weight of block, mix and bricklayer. The surveyor is correct. The Estate agent is only thinking of his early commision

Thanks, Colin3, is this builder’s job or a roofer’s job. I assume you need agreement from neighbours.

leave the roof intact unless you want to put scaf up , put a hole in the roof and go thru that way . I have always done from inside the building and cart all stuff up into the loft. If you can get next door to go 1/2 all well and good Party Wall act comes into play

Thanks, I’ll check out the party wall act.
