Open rent has kept my card details from years back and went ahead and used

I have not been getting messages either. I condsidered paying to boost it and looked at the options - not yet clicking on pay now, nor even had my card near by… but left the page open. I then get an email that Open Rent USED card details it KEPT from years ago! no code on the back required, no 'security ’ measures! I absolutely had not clicked on pay now.

If you get no satisfaction from OpenRent, your bank will reverse the charge. This is a common problem with online services. But they will require you to have complained to the vendor(Openrent) in the first instance, so you should keep records (screenshot of each email or forum post, the replies, how long you waited if no reply etc).

Most likely Open Rent will fix this. But you might need to wait for monday. Banks penalise vendors who take liberties with cards, so OpenRent won’t want you to complain to the bank.

Hi @Kate28 -

This is quite a claim so I had to take a look. If OpenRent were taking payments without permission or confirmation it would certainly be surprising to me, but I’d also expect this forum and our customer support inbox to be absolutely full of complaints!

I can confirm however, that is not what happened. Looking at the logs on our sever you visited this page at: 07/09/2024 10:54:07.837 (UTC)

You then clicked this button at 07/09/2024 10:54:31.330 (UTC):

You then clicked the “Pay By Card Now” button at 07/09/2024 10:54:38.893 (UTC):

And finally you saw this confirmation page at 07/09/2024 10:54:39.087 (UTC):

As you can see there were several confirmation steps, even with a saved card.

10 minutes later you posted this post on this forum.

In any case, we’ve already issued you a full refund it seems, and would have also done so if you simply told us you had made a mistake rather than accuse us of stealing money from you. I can also see you’ve updated your user preferences to ensure card details aren’t saved in future - which of course is up to any user and would simply mean you have to enter your card details in future rather than clicking “Pay By Card Now”.

Thanks, Daz.

I really absolutely did not. I looked at those photos you show and left them open. To think about it I then clicked on my email. That’s when I saw payment was taken.

Later searching in settings …I saw that there is a button that remains open to keeping card details…yet the site is not telling you they will do this …so that people can choose not to have this happen
