I created an OpenRent listing advertising a 12 month contract. After various viewings one couple have put down a holding deposit, and so I’ve started the referencing process.
At this stage I was able to look at the default OpenRent proposed contract for this let and noticed that it includes a 6 month break clause. Why would they do that when the contract advertised was for 12 months?
I amended the proposed contract to remove the break clause because that is not what I want, and was not what was offered in the listing.
The proposed tenants are now upset that the break clause was removed. They want it put back in even though a break clause had never been mentioned before.
The OpenRent process for amending a contract BEFORE it has been agreed by both parties causes unnecessary upset.
