My tenant is foreign and yet to get a UK bank account as Openrent holding deposit only can be paid by UK bank card. So his UK friend has paid it. Is it legit?
I called NRLA and they insist it has to be paid by the named tenant, but isn’t over the top? i.e. like chicken and egg. no chick no egg no egg no chicken…

The only way for a tenancy to proceed in Rent Now is with the tenant placing the holding deposit on the website, and with a UK debit card. Credit cards or (international) bank transfers are not available payment methods.
We offer some guidance on how tenants can set up a UK bank account without proof of address here.
In the past, tenants have also used a friend or relative to initiate the process - where this is not available however, Rent Now cannot be initiated.
So tenant can get someone else with UK bank account to pay holding deposit via Open Rent?
