Paid deposit and first months rent, keys not received

I had a gut instinct. The pressure put on me to make an impulsive decision was very passive aggressive. Yes i loved the property, location and price but it seemed too good to be true. And from having tenants show me around, not the landlord or an angency worker, immediately sparked my fear. I then questioned when the boiler had last been serviced and the tenant said she had been living there two years and it had never been done. When I questioned the agency they said they would need to contact the landlord to find out. I had assumed they would know this information and have it readily available. That was also another red flag for me. Ive been searching for over 8 months now and im still no closer to finding my forever home through the orivate renting sector :frowning:

looking for 8 months is amazing. I only take monies when we all get together and sign the contracts

This is how ive always known it to be but nowadays things are changing and im wary. Plus living in london makes it harder as some rental prices are extortionate and as soon as you apply for somewhere it’s usually gone. I cant look 24/7 as I work and have other life commitments. Its hard but i do keep trying

They have been given all the details, names, and copies of the emails. They said it’s definitely a scam, a spoof website (basically a copy of open rents web page).
