Property I want to rent is not listed

Hello!

I’ve found this flat I want to rent in Gumtree. I contacted the landlord, went for a viewing and later he send me a link to do the refernece in Open Rent. I’ve tried to find this flat through the platform, but i couldn’t find it. Does that mean is not available any more? He hasn’t asked for a holding deposit either.

Is my first time using Open Rent, so I’m not sure how it works.

Be careful of listings on gumtree and facebook. There are a lot of scams there. I’d stick with the established portals.

It’s entirely possible for LLs to advertise elsewhere and do referencing via OpenRent. The fact that you’ve already done a viewing and didn’t have to pay for that and have not been asked for a holding deposit might indicate that this is legitimate.

However, since advertising on OpenRent is entirely free, it seems strange that they’d only use it for a paid service and not the free service.

I’d want to know that this LL is the actual owner of the property and so I’d ask to see the land registry documents and proof of ID of the LL for peace of mind. I’d also express concern that the ad is on Gumtree but not OR and see how they respond.
