Hi,

Apologies if this is a silly/obvious question but having gone down the independent, Openrent route for the first time, is it straightforward to verify the authenticity of a tenant’s previous landlord reference, as oppposed to something completely made up by say a tenant’s friend? Having their friend pose as the previous landlord to give a glowing endorsement?

Or does Openrent’s comprehensive refererencing include checking validity?

No, it’s not, but you could spend £3 on the land registry website to find out the owner of the property. This may not be ghe landlord, but will be in most cases.
