Providing landlord contact details/GDPR

Hi

I’m a tenant currently in a periodic tenancy and I’m looking to move in the new year. While I will obviously give the correct notice when the time comes I guess I’m wary of being in the position of letting my landlord know I’m wanting to move and yet potentially taking weeks/months to find somewhere. I’m mindful of GDPR and providing contact details without permission but I’m unsure how this applies to this situation. With employment/ banking details there is no requirement to get permission first – would I need landlord’s permission to provide their details for referencing?

Any input much appreciated. I’ve had a google but can’t seem to find anything that covers this scenario.

There’s no legal requirement to get yheir consent first. Its just a curtousy. I think its reasonable to request it once youve been accepted subject to referencing though.

Thanks David, that’s what I was hoping - a heads-up after I’ve found somewhere rather than permission requested in advance.

My tenants gave me a heads up they were looking to move, and I appreciated that. It took them a few months to find something, and I gave them a great reference.

It’s useful for landlords to know tenants might be moving, especially if they’ve been there for a while, so they can start thinking about any upgrades while the property is empty.
